Hyper Beam is a Normal type damage-dealing move.
Functionality
Hyper Beam inflicts damage. If the move was successful, the user will automatically spend its next turn recharging. This prevents its trainer from making a choice during the next turn, meaning he or she cannot switch, use items or run away.
If a Truant Pokemon uses Hyper Beam, the loafing turn and recharge turn will overlap, allowing the user to attack on the third turn as normal.
Bugs
- Unlike in the original games, the Pokemon is required to act in order to recharge. If it is unable to act due to Sleep, Paralysis, Freeze or Confusion, Hyper Beam's recharge turn will be postponed to the next turn. Disable as well as semi-invulnerable two-turn moves like Fly can also cause the recharge turn to be postponed. (Report thread)
