Roar is a non-damaging Normal type move.
Functionality
In wild Pokémon battles, Roar will automatically end the battle, regardless of if it has been used by the player or the wild Pokémon.
In trainer battles, Roar forces the opponent to switch to a randomly chosen Pokémon from within his or her remaining Pokémons. If the opponent no longer has any Pokémon other than his active Pokémon, Roar will fail.
For both situations, Roar always fail if the user's level is lower than the opponent's level, and will always succeed if they user's level is equal or higher than the opponent's level.
If the opponent has the Suction Cups or Soundproof ability, Roar will always fail, regardless of level.
Bugs
- Pokémon in the back of the party are significantly less likely to be switched to than the first two alive Pokémon. (Report thread)
- Despite not dealing any damage, Roar is able to cause Critical hits. (Report thread)
- If Roar is used on a Suction Cups Pokémon, the message displayed does not warn that Roar failed because of the opponent's ability.
