Route 42

Mt. Mortar is a Johto cave with multiple entrances spread on the side of Route 42. The two main entrances, the west and east ones, are directly linked in a fairly straight path, however the cave becomes a maze when wandering off that path or entering the cave from one of the two middle entrances.

All entrances are however connected to each other. The bottom middle entrance requires Surf to reach from inside the cave, as the route in B1F is blocked by many bodies of water. There are also many bodies of water in the Upper Cave, however it does not lead to anywhere special.

On the north side of the Upper Cave is a room that leads to a unique area to Pokémon Revolution Online, Forest Pit. It will however be blocked by a Hiker, which won't let the player pass unless he or she has defeated the Johto Elite Four.

Two notes of warning about the cave. In 1F, there is a large waterfall that seems to connect the middle bottom exit to the Upper Cave. However, this is not the case, as such the Upper Cave only leads to a dead-end. Furthermore, the Upper Cave is filled with bodies of water and ledges; it is possible to reach the end of the Upper Cave without Surf, but using Surf is necessary to come back from the moment the first ledge has been jumped. As such, it is possible to get stuck if no Surf Pokémon was brought. If this happens, it will be necessary to use an Escape Rope or lose/disconnect in a wild Pokémon encounter in order to return to the last Pokémon Center.
