Cut is a Normal-type damage-dealing move.
It is also known as HM01—the encapsulating TM device of this move, which is compulsorily obtained from the S.S. Anne quest.
Function
In battle
Cut monofunctionally inflicts damage.
Out of battle
Cut can be used to prune specifically choppable trees, thereby deobstructing them from the pathway that they may have occluded, otherwise. With a Cut-wielding Pokémon in your party, interact with a choppable tree; it will prompt you to cut the tree and proceedingly do so if you accept.
The Hatchet is functionally identical to the out-of-battle mechanics of Cut, thereby allowing you to readily chop trees without having to carry HM-slave fodder in your lineup; however, the HM03 device is still required to use it.
