Missing Santa (quest)

This quest is a part of the main Evergreen Island storyline. As such, the quest's accessibility is limited to its opening times, which are between December and January.

The Missing Santa Quest is a new quest that was released during the Christmas event of 2021.
It is also a compulsory quest to be able to capture Zekrom and Reshiram during the Zekrom and Reshiram (quest).

Starting the quest

Elf Catherine

Elf Catherine: This is bad, this is bad... What should I do?
...
Elf Catherine: OMG! You surprised me...
Elf Catherine: Hmm... Player is your name, huh?
Player: Oups, sorry... And how do you know my name?!
Elf Catherine: I'm one of Santa's high-ranked elves,
I have the list of all kids' names and faces, as well as what things they've done this year.
Elf Catherine: And it seems like you've been good this year. You deserve a gift, a really good one.
Elf Catherine: However... I'm afraid there will be no Christmas this year...
Elf Catherine: Santa has been kidnapped by some bad guys with strong Pokémon.
We've fought them with all we have, but they're just too strong.
Some of our elves even joined them. I don't know what to do now.
Player: I'm really sorry to hear that... Is there any way I can help?
Elf Catherine: Hmm... You're indeed a really good kid, eh?
And yeah, with those badges you have, you might have a chance.
Elf Catherine: So... I don't know exactly where they took Santa, but I can feel that he isn't far from here.
Elf Catherine: Go find those bad guys and set Santa free,
and please make sure to do it as soon as possible, I'm afraid something bad could happen to him...
Elf Catherine: Let me ask you one more time though, do you really want to help? It's just...
You're supposed to enjoy the holiday now, like the other kids.
Multi-choice box: "Yes, I will do all I can.", "Uh... Can you repeat yourself?" and "Actually, I changed my mind. Sorry..."
Upon selecting "Yes, I will do all I can." she will reply with:
Elf Catherine: Awesome! Now I'm relying on you...

End of conversation.

Head to Cryofrost Town and speak with the NPC Elf Catherine.
She is located next to the Pokemart found directly below the entrance to the town.
By interacting with her, the player is first met with a worried Catherine, that eventually tells the player that Santa is kidnapped.
She will ask the player to rescue Santa from his strong evil kidnappers.

Rescuing Santa

Head to Snowfall Valley where Santa is being kept captive inside the Snowfall Valley House.
The player can find Cryofrost Brink south of Cryofrost Town which is the route the player needs to take in order to reach Snowfall Valley.
Along the route in Cryofrost Brink, the player needs to defeat a few trainers in order to reach Snowfall Valley where more trainers are stationed.
If the player has not defeated them prior to starting the quest, they will need to fight all of them to reach the house in Snowfall Valley where Santa is kept.

Elf Patricia

Elf Patricia: There's nothing inside this house, kid. You better stay away.
Player: Are you sure? I will need to check if Santa is inside. You will let me, right?
Player: Or you're one of those elves who helped the bad guys?
Elf Patricia: So you knew about it, eh? You're sharp! Now I won't let you escape.
Elf Patricia will prompt a battle with the player!

Upon defeating her in battle, she will reply with:
Elf Patricia: Fine, you can check inside.
Elf Patricia: Those bad guys will beat you up anyways...

End of conversation

After heading to the Snowfall Valley, a house can be seen on the right side, where Elf Patricia is guarding the door.
Upon interacting with her, she will prompt the player to a battle.

Kidnapper Hamzah and Novanto

Novanto: I will ask you one more time, GIVE ME MY PRESENT!
Santa: I already told you, I've got no presents this year for you.
Hamzah: Then give us any presents you have!
Santa: Those presents belong to many good kids out there, you guys don't deserve them.
Novanto: It looks like we will have to take them by force.
Santa: Sure, I've hidden the presents well, you won't be able to find them.
Novanto: In that case, we will torture you until you tell us!
Player: STOP IT!
Player: I'm here to save Santa.
Hamzah Ho ho ho! Look who's here. It looks like a kid is trying to save you, Santa.
Novanto: I think we can start by torturing this kid in front of Santa.
He sure won't let it happen, then he will tell us where he put the presents!
Hamzah Good idea!
Player: Like I will let you do that...
Novanto: Watch out, the kid has some Pokémon!
Hamzah/Novanto: I have better ones!
Hamzah/Novanto will prompt the player for a battle!

Hamzah and or Novanto upon being defeated:
Hamzah/Novanto: I lost to a kid?! I can't believe this...
Hamzah/Novanto: Hahaha, wait until the boss hears about this!

Novanto: Wait, a phone call!

Novanto: Our boss has found where Santa hid the presents. Let's head to Frozen Cave now!
Hamzah: Ok!

Santa after being rescued: Santa: Thank you for saving me, kid...
Santa: So... How did you find me?
...
...
Santa: I see... So it was Catherine...
Santa: Anyways... The case is not solved yet, kid.
We need to retrieve my present bag at Frozen Cave before they get away with it.
...
Santa: Oh, you want to help me? Sure, I appreciate your help!
Santa: Once again, thanks a lot!
Santa: I will go back to Cryofrost Town now. If you need me, just look for me there, ok?
Santa: Before that, let me see which is the name of this kind-hearted kid in front of me, hehehe...
Santa: So, it's Player.
Santa: Well, Player, see you later.

After defeating Elf Patricia in battle, the player will gain access to Snowfall Valley House, where Santa is held captive by Hamzah and Novanto.
The player only needs to defeat either Hamzah or Novanto. The NPC the player first talks to will prompt the battle.
They share the same lineup of Pokémon and the only difference will be the battle NPC name.

Retrieving Santa's bag

After defeating either Hamzah or Novanto in a battle, they will need to talk to Santa.
He will then return to Cryofrost Town, where the player has to talk to him again.
Here, the player will be tasked with retrieving Santa's bag that was stolen.
Santa asks the player to go to Frozen Cave, in order to retrieve his bag.
The entrance to Frozen Cave is found at the top of the map on Frost Valley, this requires some ice skating to reach.
Frost Valley is located North of Cryofrost Town and East of Cryofrost Path.

Notice: This requires the player to have Surf or a Surf Mount to be able to reach the area inside Frozen Cave!

Kidnapper Hamzah

The entrance will be blocked by Kidnapper Hamzah, which the player met during the rescuing of Santa part.
This time, Hamzah will have a new lineup of Pokémon.

Making your way to Santa's bag

After defeating Kidnapper Hamzah, he will no longer block entry to the cave.
The player will need to traverse the Frozen Cave in order to reach Santa's bag.
The first room only has a ladder that the player would need to go down.
When the player has reached Frozen Cave B2F, they will need to go all the way to the top and Surf over the water to the right.
There is a ladder found at the bottom right corner, leading up to Frozen Cave B1F.
Go directly to the left side, and take the ladder found to the right of the bridge.

Kidnapper Novanto

After going down the ladder, the player will need to face off against Kidnapper Novanto.
Just like with Kidnapper Hamzah, their lineup will be new and more challenging.

Kidnapper Rais

After defeating Novanto, you'll finally be face-to-face with the mastermind behind this operation.
This time the challenge will go from 0 to 100, or in this case from level 90 to 100.

Evil Grinch

After the player has defeated Kidnapper Rais in a battle, the true mastermind behind this appears.
Once the player interacts with the Evil Grinch, he will steal Santa's bag.
The player must now return to Cryofrost Town to talk to Santa about the events that unfolded.

Beating the true mastermind

After discovering that the legend about the Evil Grinches is true after all.

The legend says that they appear once every 27 years to steal Christmas presents and decorations from people in Whoville and the areas surrounding it.

The player is tasked to talk with a friend of Santa located in Whoville, to learn more about the Evil Grinches.
Whoville can be found east of Frost Valley or to the right of the cave entrance leading to Frost Cave where the player was earlier.
Usually, this path is blocked by a herd of Sawsbucks. But upon completion of the earlier step, they are now gone.

Investgation of the Evil Grinches

Whoville Woods

This is the path before entering Whoville town.
It has a few trainers along the way that the player needs to fight, but they are just like the trainers found on the adjacent maps.
It also features a few Ice skating challenges, that the player would need to figure out the right pattern paths to take.

Whoville Town

Once you reach Whoville, Citizen Gabri will stop you and tell you where to find the Mayor's house.
It is located in the middle and to the left of the town, the shortest route is to take the stairs in the middle.

Mayor Maywho

After speaking with Mayor Maywho, he will direct the player to talk to Investigator Justin.
The player would need to visit Whoville Storage, which is the big building to the right of the stairs at the top center of Whoville.
Upon entering, the player would need to go to the second floor through the staircase behind the reception desk.
Investigator Justin will be located behind the stairs, to the left of the fireplace.
After the player has interacted with Investigator Justin they will need to go back to talk with Mayor Maywho again.

Collecting the Dragon Stones

After talking with Mayor Maywho, he will ask you to collect the 7 Dragon Stones from Oakwood Cavern, located inside the big tree the player have passed by that Jackson is guarding.
We will once again fight against our rival Jackson, but this time he will be a tough opponent compared to earlier battles throughout the Kanto Story.

Jackson

Jackson: Well if it isn't Player...
Jackson: A weird old man is paying me to stand here before this tree, and told me to prevent anyone with no clear purposes from entering. Now tell me your purpose!
...
Jackson: So you want the Dragon Stone pieces inside, eh?
Jackson: Well... That old man told me to let people who look for them enter, but only if they're worthy.
Jackson: Now let's see if you're worthy. I challenge you to a battle!
Multi choice box: "Bring it on!" and "Meh, I'll come deal with you later."
Upon picking "Bring it on!, Jackson will answer with:
Jackson: Hmph...

Upon defeating Jackson, he will respond with:
...
Jackson: YOU BEAT ME AGAIN AGAIN AND AGAIN!
Jackson: SCREW IT! I will no longer guard this tree for that weird old man.
Jackson: I got the money anyways...
Jackson: Now have fun inside!!!

Jackson runs off.

Jackson will only allow someone inside if they are worthy and mentioned the Dragon Stones as their purpose.
That was the two prerequisite that the old man who paid him told him.

Oakwood Cavern

After the player has entered Oakwood Cavern, they will see a few laying around.
These are similar to Abandoned Pokémon Pokéballs, but in this scenario either contain the Dragon Stone or an evil Pokémon that will battle the player.
The player will earn money and EXP like any wild Pokémon battle if they find and battle an evil Pokémon.
Once the player has collected 6 Dragon Stones, they will have to talk and battle with the NPC Old man Netero to obtain the last Dragon Stone.

Old man Netero

This time, the player will battle with ?? level Pokémon that are stronger then all the previous battles.
They will also encounter the unique Pokémon Crystal Onix.

The final fight at Mt. Crumpit

After obtaining all 7 Dragon Stones, the player would need to talk with Mayor Maywho again.
He will now give the player access to enter Crumpit Valley. The guards blocking the path will now move.
Notice: You will need a Pokémon with Surf or a Surf Mount to access the area leading to Mt. Crumpit.

Crumpit Valley

After entering Crumpit Valley, the player would need to head north and cross over the water, then take the bridge across.
From there the player would have to head up north, and eventually, they will arrive at the Mt. Crumpit entrance.

Mt. Crumpit

This has a few Ice skating puzzles that the player would need to solve in order to progress.
Tip: If you are struggling, remember that you can click ESC on PC and MAC to enter the menu and stop your movement.
This may not be a permanent solution and it may be subject to change with a new client release in the future.

Mt. Crumpit Summit

After getting through the Ice skating puzzles, the player will now face a series of battles with the Evil Grinches on Mt. Crumpit Summit.

Mt. Crumpit Interior

Main article: Mt. Crumpit

Once you reach the entrance, the player will see Evil Grinches patrolling around.
If the player is seen, they will be automatically teleported to the start of the Ice skating puzzles again.
The final room can be found on the left side, but close to the center.

The Grinch Lair

This is the final room where the Evil Grinch Leader is located, the mastermind behind all this.

Final battle

Evil Grinch Leader

This is the final boss and also the most challenging one so far in this quest.
In addition to having a lot of powerful Pokémon, he also have a Mega Scizor in his lineup.
Be prepared, this boss loves to switch a lot!

Postbattle

After battling and defeating the Evil Grinch Leader once and for all, they are determined to escape.
The player would need to interact with the "Phone" located on the top right next to the generator.
After talking with the Police Station, they will say that they've placed guards outside the room to intercept the escaping Evil Grinch Leader.
After that, the player would need to return back to Whoville and report to Mayor Maywho.
He will reward the player with x3 Red Candycane and x3 Green Candycane.

Returning Santa's bag

After reporting back to Mayor Maywho, the player will now head back to Cryofrost Town and talk with Santa.
He will reward the player with x1 Santa Hat, x1 Santa Suit, x3 Red Candycane, x3 Green Candycane and x1 Christmas Cracker
