Cinnabar Island is a volcanic island that is southwesterly situated in Kanto.
As an island, it entails that players must travel asea for their initial visits; this entails access to HM03 (Surf) and a Surf-wielding Pokémon on-hand or another Surf Mount.
It is tenanted by Cinnabar Gym—the seventh gym in Kanto's successional line. Once you have been bestowed the Volcano Badge by Blaine, you may retread to Viridian City for the eighth and final badge from Viridian Gym.
In addition to the aforementioned gym, it subsumes other notable intrasites in Cinnabar Mansion and Cinnabar Lab.
Notable miscellanies
Cinnabar Lab
Cinnabar Lab serves as a polestar for various Pokémon professors and scientists that prefer to work seclusively, allowing them to work in an islanded environment from the rest of the region's mainland.
Most notably, the lab is home to many NPCs of interest, two of which are important in obtaining particular Pokémon; most notably, Fossil Pokémon and Porygon. However, the room in which these two NPCs are located in, Cinnabar Lab Room 3, will be blocked by a guard that will refuse to leave until the Cinnabar Gym has been completed.
Silver Disc and Porygon
In Cinnabar Lab Room 1, an NPC will evaluate the player's Pokédex. Should the player have the caught data of over 100 Pokémon, he will offer a Silver Disc as a one-time reward.
Regardless of how the Silver Disc was obtained, Davis, in Cinnabar Lab Room 3, will convert the Silver Disc into a Porygon of level 5, again with the requirement of over 100 caught data. This process will require him a random time of between 2 and 6 hours to complete, and so the player will be required to return the next day or later in order to claim the Porygon. You can choose either a sync chance or a Shiny chance (1/4096).
Fossil reanimator
In Cinnabar Lab Room 3, the unamed NPC at the top right of the room will turn any of the following Fossils into their respective Pokémon:
- Dome Fossil into Kabuto
- Helix Fossil into Omanyte
- Old Amber into Aerodactyl
- Jaw Fossil into Tyrunt
- Sail Fossil into Amaura
Each Pokémon will be revived at level 25. It will be the first opportunity to revive the fossil chosen back in Mt. Moon. Furthermore, each Fossil has a 1/1000 chance of being Shiny.
NPC Traders
There are three NPC Traders in the Cinnabar Lab. They are as follows:
- Pikachu Trader. Located in Cinnabar Lab Room 1, he will offer his level 30 Pikachu for the player's Electrode.
- Tangela Trader. Also located in Cinnabar Lab Room 1, he will offer his level 10 Tangela for the player's Venonat.
- Seel Trader. Located in Cinnabar Lab Room 3, he will offer his level 10 Seel for the player's Ponyta.
Move Tutors
There are two Move Tutors located in the Cinnabar Lab.
The first one, located in Cinnabar Lab Room 1, will teach Metronome for 8,000.
The second one is in Cinnabar Lab Room 3, he will teach the move Gyro Ball to any compatible Pokémon for the price of
15,000.
There is one additional tutor located on the lower floor of the Cinnabar Gym. A move tutor for Heat Wave can be found there and will cost 8,000.
Professor Oak (boss)
Professor Oak can be found in Cinnabar Lab Room 2. He will fight the player, given that they have completed the Kanto League. See the main entry for more details.

Inside the lab, to the left of Professor Oak boss, R'aul will start the quest for the Charizardite X. See the main page for further details.
Cinnabar Mansion
- Main article: Cinnabar Mansion
Cinnabar Mansion, more putatively known as Pokémon Mansion, is a derelict, incinerated mansion found on this island. Despite its decreptitude, it is still bustled with wild Pokémon, conducing it as a popular pre-Blaine training area and general hunting area for a bevy of the rarer Fire-type Pokémon.
This mansion is antecedently accessed before Cinnabar Gym is accessibilized, as the gym's key is sequestered in this mansion.
Officer Jenny's bounties
Just like in most Kanto cities, there is an Officer that gives small quests called "bounties". Found in the north-west shore of the island, she gives the following bounties:
- Fight Articuno: This bounty requires the player to obtain the seen data of Articuno. This can be done by fighting Articuno at Seafoam Islands B4F. The reward for completing this bounty is
12,000.
- Revive a Fossil: This bounty requires the player to revive any Fossil at the nearby Laboratory. As long as the Pokémon is of the player's OT, Officer Jenny will accept any of the following: Kabuto, Kabutops, Omanyte, Omastar and Aerodactyl. The Pokémon is also not lost upon completing the bounty. The reward for completing this bounty is
6,000 and a Hard Stone.
- Catch a Corsola: This bounty requires the player to catch a Corsola. They can be found by surfing at Cinnabar Island, however like Jenny warns, they do not appear during the night. The Corsola is also not lost upon completing the bounty. The reward for completing this bounty is 10 Lure Balls.
The player may accept any bounty at the same time, but each bounty can only be completed once.
Sailor
A Sailor is waiting immediately in front of the Pokémon Center. He will take the player directly to Route 19's beach for the price of 2,500, or for free if the player has an active Transit Pass. However, he only offers the service to those that have completed the Subway quest and the Kanto Elite Four.
Sailor James
Sailor James is standing just below the Pokémon Center and will take you to Eriyadu Town for a fee of 500, regardless if you have an active Transit Pass.
Copycat Lamsie
Copycat Lamsie is an NPC that copies the team of the last player that defeated the city's gym, in this case, the Cinnabar Island Gym. She will battle you and award you EXP, but no money, making it a great spot to grind just before challenging the gym.

Cinnabar Gym
Whereupon the Secret Key is procured in Cinnabar Mansion, Cinnabar Gym will be unlocked. It rewards the Volcano Badge to victorious challengers, which is a prerequisite for accessibilizing Viridian Gym in order to acquire the eighth and final badge in Kanto's sequential line in the Earth Badge.
It is a two-story site, comprising ground floor and a subterranean floor: the ground floor is occupied by gym-trainers that must be waded through in order to reach the basement floor, whereas the basement floor is inhabited by Blaine. Once the gauntlet of ground-floor trainers have been beaten, Blaine will be encountered, beckoning the trainer to follow him downstairs for the impending gym battle.
Upon defeating Blaine, Fire Blast will be sold by the Gym Guide at 12,000 for one or
48,000 for five. However, the first time you purchase the TM, it will be sold at half the true value, lowering it to
6,000.
