Eterna City is a Sinnoh city located between Route 205 and Route 211. It also exits to Route 206 on the south side, although it will first be required to defeat the local gym.

Eterna City is home to the first Team Galactic hideout to raid through, although a rather small one. It is also the city in which the regional Bicycle shop is located at, although the player would surely have their own Bicycle or mount by then.

Notable miscellanies

Galactic Building quest

When first entering Eterna City, the gym leader Gardenia will be blocking access to her gym. She'll ask instead for the player to investigate the building on the far north, around which Team Galactic centers its activities. Afterwards, it will be possible to challenge the Galactic Grunt blocking at its entrance and enter the building.

The goal will be to defeat Commander Jupiter on the top floor. Each floor has two stairs going to the next floor, and the correct sequence to take is:

  • East stairs
  • West stairs
  • West stairs

Arrived at Commander Jupiter, she will challenge the player. Her team is estimated to be level 20.

Commander Jupiter
  • Emboldened moves avail from a STAB bonus when deployed by that Pokémon.
  • Italicized moves are functionally broken; see their individualized pages for more information.

Once she has been defeated, NPCs will appear in various places of the building, most of them being Pokémons. Amongst them, the player needs to save a Dragonite, a Drifblim and a Ditto; the Ditto will be transformed randomly as one of the Team Galactic Pokemons or the Galactic Grunt himself. The NPCs appear in the following locations:

Any Galactic member that turned to not be Ditto will fight the player, with all of them being level 14.

Once all 3 Pokémons have been saved, the quest will be completed by talking to Jevons, the man that was standing in front of Commander Jupiter, and the gym leader Gardenia will also return in her gym.

Bike Shop

Located just south-east of the Pokemon Center, the Bike Shop is the place to handle Bicycle in Hoenn. In case a Bicycle was not bought back in the previous regions, the Bike Salesman will be selling one.

If the player already has a Bicycle, Bike Mechanic Ryan will offer to change its color between Red, Blue, Green and Yellow for the price of 10,000.

Barboach-Trader

There is an NPC Trader in the south-westmost house who will trade his Barboach for the player's Budew. The Barboach will be initialized at level 15.

Eterna Gym

Eterna Gym will initially be blocked by the gym leader Gardenia until the Galactic Building quest has been completed.

The Eterna Gym layout appears to be a forest maze, with no trainer in sight. The puzzle of this gym is a game of Hide and Seek. The player must find the hiding trainer, and everytime a trainer is found and defeated, the next trainer will hide, repeating until Gardenia appears in the center north. The trainers appear in that order:

  • Picnicker in south-west corner.
  • Lass a little north-east of the entrance, under a string of 4 thin trees.
  • Lass near the north-west corner, in a mini dead-end.
  • Lady at the end of the eastmost path.

With all 4 defeated, Gardenia will become challengeable.

Upon defeating Gardenia, the gym-greeter will start acting as a Move Tutor for the move Energy Ball. He will teach the move to any compatible Pokémon for the price of 12,000.

Gardenia

Gardenia is the Grass type specialist, and first since Kanto's Erika. However, she may possibly be the easiest gym of all. Gardenia's Pokémons will all prioritize Grass Knot over any other move, and the only other types she has offensively are Normal type with Tackle and Poison type with Sludge Bomb. This means that any Pokémon with light weight will take very little damage, while a large variety of Pokémons such as the Steel type Bronzor will be able to resist all of her attacks with no difficulty.
