Route 40 is a Johto sea route, located between Olivine City and Route 41. It will be the first location of Johto's story where it is necessary to bring Surf. On its north is located the Battle Road, although it is blocked as the location hasn't been created yet.
Specially for this route, wild can be encountered while walking on the beach. No pokemon will appear when walking on the small sandy island though.

Sailor
A Sailor is waiting at the edge of the beach. He will take the player directly to Mahogany Town for the price of 
2,500, or for free if the player has an active Transit Pass. However, he only offers the service to those that have completed the Transit Quest and the Johto Elite Four.
