Vulcan Cave

Vulcan Cave is a Vulcan Island cave located south of Vulcan Cove. The cave cannot be entered until starting the second part of the Vulcan Quest in Vulcanic Town, and is also the target destination of that quest.

As forewarned by many trainers in the cave and in Vulcan Cove, Manaphy can be encountered in the deepest part of the cave. Reaching it will require Surf and Rock Smash, and Flash is also recommended to bring as its upper floor is in the dark. Manaphy is however not catchable, giving only the seen data as a reward.

Notable miscellanies

Vulcan Quest (Part 2) - Outdated Quest, doesn't exist anymore

At the far middle east of Vulcan Cave B1F, Scientist James will ask the player for a favor. He will ask to bring samples down to his team in B2F. Proceeding there without speaking to the Scientist is not possible.

After accepting his request, he will say the 4 samples are scattered around the cave. They will all be on B1F, and will look like brighter rocks than other rocks. They can be found as follow:

  • One in the path directly north of Scientist James
  • One along the northern path, just a little east of Scientist Jim
  • One directly west of Scientist James, after taking the south turn and going near Scientist Jon.
  • One in the south-east part, a bit north-east from Scientist Reginald

With all 4 samples found, Scientist James will head down after delivering the samples to him, allowing the player to progress down to B2F.

In B2F, as warned by many of the trainers on the way there, Manaphy will be waiting in the south-west part of the floor, surrounded by scientists. Upon talking to it, Manaphy will fight the player. It will be level 120, and not possible to catch. Due to a bug, it will be necessary to fight it twice. However, given that its only offensive move is Dive, defeating it is very easy.

Once defeated, this section of the Vulcan Quest will be over, with all that is remaining being to report back to Veronica in Vulcanic Town.

Manaphy
  • Emboldened moves avail from a STAB bonus when deployed by that Pokémon.
  • Italicized moves are functionally broken; see their individualized pages for more information.

A new Part 2 for the quest was released in 2020

Abandoned Pokémon

An Abandoned Pokémon can be found in the south-westmost dead end of Vulcan Cave B1F. Picking up the blue Pokeball will provide the player with a level 25 Wailmer.
