Viridian Maze is a Kanto that is a subsite of Viridian Forest. It can be accessed through the seams of the tree north of the Oran Berry-plant tillage in the aforementioned forest.

Since this underground area is lightless, it is advisable to have a Flash-toting Pokémon on-hand as a navigational aid to help illuminate the sinuous pathway that exists.

Points of Interest

Move tutors

Headbutt

The Biker in the southwesternmost corner of the maze (proximately reachable from the entrance when walking leftwards) will impart the Headbutt move to compatible tutees for 2,000 per transaction. This also requires the Boulder Badge in order for it to be accessible.

Because of the breadth of Headbutt's compatible-Pokémon pool via move-tutor compared to level-up and the fact that it is ancillary for encountering Pokémon via Headbutt trees, this NPC's tutorship is highly coveted among players.

In order to access this NPC, you must have done the Stolen Pidgey mini-quest; until then, the Team Rocket agent will occlude the pathway to it.

Giga Drain

Erika (read below for more information) will offer her tutorship for the Giga Drain technique for 7,500 per transaction contingent that you have completed the Kanto League.

Abandoned Pokémon

In the south-east corner of the maze, an abandoned-Pokémon Pokéball is claimable. It will yield either Growlithe, Horsea, or Bellsprout—all at an equally apportioned rate, thereby providing one of the earliest-accessible avenues for obtaining any of these Pokémon. The pokemon will be of level 7.

The acquisition of this Pokéball is highly recommendable, as two of its eventualities are type-advantageous against the Rock- and Ground-type Pokémon deployed by Brock in Pewter Gym.
