Route 16 is a perpendicularly bound Kanto route that is interlocated between Route 17 and Celadon City. It is the northern terminus of Kanto's cycling road, which is bordered by Route 16 and the contradirectional Route 18.

Passersby who have procured the Soul Badge from Fuchsia Gym can proceedingly travel through the gatehouse en route to the cycling road, contingent that they have a Bicycle on-hand; this provides the most expeditious pedestrial pathway between Celadon City and Fuchsia City.

Route 16 is the residential route of Yorkie—a central quest character in the intraregional-subway quest. Multiple odd-jobs will need to be executed for Yorkie in order for the quest to be fully progressible.

Dovetailing into Yorkie's essentiality for the quest progress, Route 16 is also compulsorily accessed for hunting for the Nocturnal Feather, which is a quest-essential item that is only dropped by Pidgeotto, hereon.
