Ilex Forest - Johto

Overview

Adjacent areas

Route 34
Ilex Forest Azalea Town

Ilex Forest is a Johto forest that separates Azalea Town from Route 34. In order to cross the forest, it is necessary to complete the Farfetch'd quest, as well as to be equipped with either a pokemon that knows the move Cut or the item Tree Axe.

The Ilex Forest is also the home location of Celebi, a legendary Pokémon of the Johto region. Although its Pokédex data is obtained while crossing the forest for the first time, capturing it is no easy task as the requirements are very harsh.

Notable miscellanies

Farfetch'd

The first time the player arrives in Ilex Forest, the northern path will be blocked by a Gentlemen, asking to bring back his Farfetch'd. He will be waiting at the end of the eastern path. However, unlike in the original games, the Farfetch'd will not run away. Instead, he will attack the player.

After defeating the Farfetch'd, he will return to the Gentleman, and the Gentleman will leave, allowing the player to pass... assuming he or she also has what it takes to cut the tree behind.

Celebi Quest Part 2

After retrieving the G.S Ball from Scientist Alexander in Ruins of Alph, the next destination for the quest will be here in Ilex Forest. The next thing to do is to examine the shrine in the middle of the path through the forest. If it is examined between 00:00 and 01:00 in-game time, the G.S Ball will react and the player will be teleported to the Chronos Forest, where he or she will be put to a few trials before being able to capture Celebi

Before entering the Chronos Forest, make sure to prepare a Synchronize Pokémon, a Pokémon to weaken Celebi, a sufficient amount of Pokeballs, as well as a Surf method; many bodies of water are necessary to cross in order to reach Celebi.

Sinnoh Quest (Indragiri)

Indragiri, found in the north-east of Ilex Forest, is the second trainer of the quest to enter Sinnoh. After having defeated Symphonia in Saffron City, he will ask the player to show him an Illumise. This Pokémon can be any level, but it must have been caught by the player.

Upon showing him the Illumise, he will challenge the player. His team is estimated to be level 100, and as such, the player should prepare before the battle. If the player loses against Indragiri, he can immediately be rechallenged, although he will always ask for the Illumise and as such must always be part of the player's party.

After defeating him, he will say that there are 4 more trainers to fight in order. The next one will be Nova in New Mauville.
