Kanto Elite Four

The Kanto Elite Four can be fought in the east building of Indigo Plateau. The player must fight five difficult trainers, and it is suggested to bring a party of level 80 Pokémons to succeed the challenge without spending too much money on healing items.

The player will have to fight the five following trainers:

  • Lorelei, an Ice type master.
  • Bruno, a Fighting type master.
  • Agatha, a Ghost type master.
  • Lance, a Dragon type master.
  • Gary, the Champion who uses a diversified team.

Lorelei

Lorelei will be the first member of the Elite Four waiting for the player. Although she is said to specialize in the Ice type, she has an equal amount of Water types pokemons, with three being dual type Ice/Water and the two others being part Psychic type. Defensively, the Water and Steel types will prove to wall most attacks, while the Electric type is offensively the most efficient, taking care of all but one of her pokemons.

Bruno

Bruno will be the second in line. Although he focuses on the Fighting type, he notably has Onix. High physical defense and high special offense is recommended for this battle. Although the mixture of Ground, Rock and Fighting type attacks makes it hard to shield everything, it is noteworthy that the only Ground type moves are Dig and Earthquake from his two Onix, and that both Hitmon only have one regular-effective move against Ghost type Pokemon.

Agatha

Mid-way in the challenge, Agatha will be waiting for the player. Just like in the original games, despite being a Ghost type specialist, only three of her pokemons are of said type while the entirety of her team is Poison type. This makes her an easy target for Psychic type attacks, although it is not wise to bring that type defensively. Particularly, her final Gengar will hurt unprepared teams very badly with its Life Orb and mixture of Focus Blast and Shadow Ball leaves no Pokémon unchecked type-wise. As such, it is recommended to set-up beforehand in order to defeat the last Gengar in one attack.

Lance

The famous Dragon master, Lance will be the last member of the Elite four before the Champion. Due to the lack of Dragon types in the first generation, his party appears more diversified, although it is noteworthy that four of his six Pokémons are also Flying type. Particularly efficient type offensively are Electric, Ice, Rock, Water and the new Fairy type, with each of these types being effective against at least 3 of his Pokémons. While Lance's large diversity of types makes it difficult to wall through typing, it is noteworthy that all of his Pokémons use only physical attacks, as such a physical wall might prove useful.

Gary

As the Champion of the Kanto Elite Four, Gary will stand as the last trainer to fight for the challenge. This is the battle that will prove to be an ultimate test of skills, as Gary does not focus on any type and will find a counter for any Pokémon the player may send. As this is the final battle, it is the moment to go all out with all that the player has remaining in his party and inventory.
