Maxie is the head of Team Magma and the counterpart of Archie, head of Team Aqua. Maxie falls under the Quest Boss category and is thereafter not repeatable, even if the player should lose. His only purpose is to give the player the Groudon Pokédex entry, this data is also possible to obtain elsewhere (i.e on Nikola (boss)) and is mainly required as a prerequisite to being able to do the Jirach quest.
Challenging Maxie
Maxie resides in the Terra Cave located in Cave of Origin that can be found at the North end of Sootopolis City. To be able to challenge Maxie to a battle, the player must have completed the Hoenn League, have a full set of level 100 Pokémon in the lineup, and have the bare minimum of at least 50 hours since entering the Hoenn region. Once these are met, Maxie will prompt the player to a battle and the outcome will remain relatively the same. Once the battle is over, win or loss, he vanishes and will no longer be challengeable.
