Route 44 is a Johto route, linking Mahogany Town to the Ice Path. There is a burrow on the wall of Ice Path, allowing a shortcut to Blackthorn City using Dig.

Excluding events, this also marks the first time there will be a troll Master Ball. An NPC points to it after a strange conversation, but the Master Ball cannot be reached.
