Route 5 is a Kanto route that's interlocated between Cerulean City and Saffron City, serving as a junctional route therebetween.

This area becomes immediately reachable whereupon Misty is defeated in Cerulean Gym; thereafter, it can be accessed by walking through the seams slightly northeast of the aforementioned gym, as the burglarized-house area will be made passable.

This route must be traveled on en route to Vermilion City for the next badge in Kanto's successional line of gyms. One of the gatehouses of the quadricentral Saffron City exists, here, but it will be impassable until the Soul Badge has been procured from Fuchsia Gym; this necessitates that you use the Route 5-to-Route 6 underpass in order to bypass it.

This route also houses Kanto's own Daycare Center.

Daycare Center

Kanto's only daycare-center site exists on this route, which is housed in the lone house on this route. Naero's eponymous boss NPC must be defeated in order to access the site and thus its services; since that entails access to Cerulean Cave—a top-end training site that requires biregional completion to complete its compulsory quest—it will not be achievable early on.

Herein, the daycare-quest system can be used, and Egg Moves will be teachable by the tutor for 15,000 per tutee.
