Trainers Valley is a special Kanto area which can be accessed by taking the Interregional train between Saffron City and Goldenrod City. The option to travel to Trainers Valley will however only appear when already inside the train, and if the following conditions have been fulfilled:
- Red has been fought at the summit of Mt. Silver. Having won is not necessary.
- 120 caught-data entries of Generation I Pokémon registered in your Pokédex.
- 38 evolved-data entries registered in your Pokédex.
On top of the 5,000 fee for using the train, moving to Trainers Valley will cost an additional
10,000 fee. Both of the prices are however free if the player has an active Transit Pass. Furthermore, there is no price for leaving Trainers Valley, and the player can choose if he wants to leave to Goldenrod City or Saffron City regardless of where he or she came from.
Trainers Valley exits southward to Trainers Valley Cave. However, there is a secret path that is well hidden. From the south exit, going north up to a first lamppost, then east to a second lamppost, it is possible to go through the trees adjacent to that second lamppost and reach a burrow. Going through that burrow leads to a second area of Trainers Valley where all the wild Pokémon are located at. Sneaking through the west side of the wall of rocks in the water leads further to a large crystal, which teleports the player to Pitch Black Cave.
Trainers Valley, being the entry point of its region, is equipped with a Pokémon Center, allowing the player to rest from exploring other areas beyond. There are also a few Moves that can only be only be learned from this area.
