The Legendary Birds quest, as the name implies, is the quest to obtain the three Kanto legendary birds.

This quest is meant to be for the late game, and as such, is not recommended for beginners.
However, beginners may start to make preparations for when they are ready to complete this quest.

<br clear="all">

__TOC__

Preparations
Before starting the quest, make sure you have the following:
*Seen data for all three legendary birds (Zapdos/Moltres/Articuno)
*A Pokémon with the ability Cloud Nine
*A Pokémon with the ability Shadow tag
*A surf mount
*6 level 100 Fire type Pokémon

Once all of these have been acquired, you are ready to begin the quest.

Walkthrough
Shamouti Island
To begin the quest, you must head to Shamouti Island. This can be done by talking to Sailor Sam at the Vermilion City Docks.
Once you reach the island, find the Pokémon Center and speak with Melody. She will ask you to retrieve 1 orb from Ice Island, Fire Island, and Lightning Island. Melody recommends to head to Fire Island first.

Fire Orb
Head North of Shamouti Island to Shamouti Seaway, there will be a viscous storm that prevents you from going further. This is where a Pokémon with the ability Cloud Nine will be needed. Note that this will be needed only once, meaning you do not have to bring Cloud Nine every time you wish to pass here.

Once the storm has been weakened, grab your 6 Fire type Pokémon, and start to make your way to Fire Island. To reach said island, head north from Shamouti Island to Shamouti Seaway, keep going north to Seaway Vein, then head west to Seaway Vein Extension, further west lies Fire Island Seaway, and north of that is Fire Island.

Fire Elder
Make your way to the top of the mountain and you will find the Fire Elder. He will challenge you to a battle, but you are only allowed to use Fire type Pokémon. Once he has been defeated, you will obtain the Fire Orb.
Lightning Orb
Lawrence IV
Once the Fire elder has been beaten, you will have to beat another boss. This one, however, has no type stipulation. Head back to Shamouti Island and grab whichever 6, level 100, Pokémon you wish. Head north of Shamouti Island to Shamouti Seaway, then continue to Seaway Vein, and on an island there will be Zapdos and Moltres. Once you land, you will be teleported to a strange room with a single NPC, he will challenge you to a battle.

}}
}}

After beating him, you will have to fight him again. This time he will use Zapdos and Moltres.

After the second battle, search the wrecked ship for the Lightning Orb. Once found, Melody will appear with a Slowking and will teleport you back to the Pokémon Center in Shamouti Island.

Ice Orb
Articuno
For this part, you will need a Pokémon with the ability Shadow Tag.

To reach the Ice Island, head north of Shamouti Island, go north from Shamouti Seaway, then north again through Seaway Vein, keep going north from Ice Island Seaway, and finally you will reach Ice Island.

When you reach the island, go left and up the stairs. Waiting there is Articuno. After defeating it, it will drop the Ice Orb.

Melody
Now that all 3 orbs have been collected, speak to Melody in Shamouti Island. Behind Melody is Lugia. When spoken to, Lugia will thank you and depart, leaving a Silver Wing for you to collect. With this, the quest is complete.

Catching the Birds
Once the quest has been finished, there are additional requirements to fight each bird. You can catch them in any order you wish and all three are catchable. With each bird you catch, the requirements for the next one will increase.
*Articuno will need Ice Gems and Smoochum(Must be your OT Pokemon)
*Zapdos will need Electric Gems and Elekid(Must be your OT Pokemon)
*Moltres will need Fire Gems and Magby(Must be your OT Pokemon)

For the first legendary bird, you will need 15 of the corresponding Gems, the corresponding baby Pokémon with 100 or more IVS, and 100 or more evolution data.

For the second legendary bird, you will need 30 of the corresponding Gems, the corresponding baby Pokémon with 120 or more IVS, and 200 or more evolution data.

For the third, and final, legendary bird, you will need 100 of the corresponding Gems, the corresponding baby Pokémon with 140 or more IVS, and 335 or more evolution data.

To catch them, you will need to go to their respective islands with the baby Pokémon that corresponds with them and with the required amount of Gems. Speak with the Elder's of each island and give them the Pokémon and the Gems. The Pokémon given will not be returned.

After giving the Pokémon and Gems, the legendary bird will spawn. Make sure you have a Synchronize Pokémon and enough Pokéballs. Using a Master Ball is widely recommended to avoid any mishaps and to guarantee the capture.

The Intraregional Subway quest is the requisitory quest of the intraregional-subway system that connects the Kanto and Johto regions. This quest's completion—in addition to the regionally respective championships for the Elite Four bureaus—is required in order to use this system to travel intraregionally between Pokémon Centers.

Because the quest also rewards HM02 (Fly), it is also referred to as the Fly Quest; however, while this is a reward, it should be noted that Fly has no out-of-battle usability.
Walkthroughs
Textual guide
Throughout your journey, you may have noticed in Pokémon Centers that the intraregional-subway systems have been inoperable; that is because they have not have had enough money to subsidize it. With an Elite Four championship, however, your reputation as a trainer has risen to the point that the subway-manager is willing to request your help to repair it.

Speaking to the subway-manager
Once you have become a regional champion by defeating Kanto's Elite Four , speak to the subway-manager in Saffron City's subway station to begin the quest.

He will inform you that Yorkie (their most prolific sponsor) has had too many issues to tend to with his farm; which caused him to rescind his sponsorship, ultimately leading to the shutdown of the subway. He notes that Yorkie resides on Route 16 and points you in his direction.
Visiting Yorkie
Head to Route 16; the least roundabout route thereto would be traveling westwards from Saffron City to the western terminus of Celadon City. Remember that a Bicycle is needed in order to pass through the gatehouse to Yorkie's house; Mounts, while functionally identical, do not count to access the Cycling Roads.

Once you have passed through the gatehouse, you will find Yorkie's house — the only house within the vicinity of the route.

When you try to speak to Yorkie, he will ask for his parcel back, which he gave to his brother; he will muse over the whereabouts of him, who he suspects would not leave Kanto.

<br clear="all">
Locating Yorkie's brother
Do note that Yorkie's brother will be hidden until you have spoken to Yorkie for the quest objective to find his brother.

Yorkie's brother's location is randomized for each player; there are five possible places to find him:

*A mini-island on Route 21
*Victory Road Kanto 2F
*Saffron City's Pokémart
*Route 10 (adjacent to the Power Plant)
*Diglett's Cave

<gallery>
File:Yorkie's Brother (Diglett's Cave).png|Diglett's Cave
</gallery>

When you speak to him, he will admit that he still has his parcel on-hand; however, he will stipulate that you must pay Pdollar50,000 in return for it. Once you have paid, he will whisk off to another region, leaving you with the parcel that Yorkie has requested.

Nocturnal Feather
Return to Yorkie with his parcel. While he is thankful that you have returned it, he wants you to complete another objective before he is willing to sponsor the subway: obtaining a Nocturnal Feather to attest your "love" for the Pidgey evolutionary line.

The item is only dropped by Pidgeotto that inhabit Route 16 during the morning and night. The item's drop rate is quite rare and thus the hunt can take while, however, the following techniques can be used to make the hunt for it easier.

*Deploy a Pokémon with the Frisk ability; this will discern whether or not the wild Pidgeotto is actively holding a Nocturnal Feather, which can help you quickly identify if the Pidgeotto you find is worth your time.
*Use item-looting moves, such as Covet and Thief, to loot the Nocturnal Feather from wild Pidgeotto (if actively holding it). Even if the Pokémon ultimately faints, the item will still be retrieved.
*If you wish to capture the Pidgeotto to loot the item instead, you can use non-fainting moves, such as False Swipe or Super Fang, to help maximize your chances of capturing the Pokémon without fainting it.

Once the Nocturnal Feather has been obtained, give it to Yorkie; this will complete the quest!
Once you have completed the quest, Yorkie will immediately reward you with HM02—the encapsulating TM of Fly.
Do note that Fly is not usable outside of battle; the move exists only for its in-battle functionality, which is now infinitely teachable to compatible Pokémon with the HM device. As a byproduct of completing its rewarding quest, however, you can now use the intraregional-subway system (read below) as the closest navigational shortcut there is to it for intraregional travel.
To use the system, travel down the staircase in operable Pokémon Centers to speak with the subway guard; therein, you will be allowed to travel to other destinational Pokémon Centers within the region for a fee of Pdollar2,500 per travel.
